TARGET GROUP

According to the research, application’s target group are persons aged 25-40 years, employed with steady income. They have a narrow circle of close friends with whom the enjoy sharing fun facts and curiosities. They can be characterised as “geeks”, loving everything about card games, boardgames, Star Wars, Star Trek, Game of Thrones, and totally into puns.

TALKING TO REAL PEOPLE

After the initial research and interviews with potential application users, I realized that they are very much interested in travel and improving their social life by hanging out with persons of similar interests.

revelation

The lack of events that interest them, combined with their inherent lack of information about current social events, results in them spending their free time mainly watching TV shows and playing video games. As they’ve declared that they enjoy traveling and hanging out, why not offer them a solution that could help improve their social life and assist them in meeting people that share their interests.

GOAL

Designing, within set timeframe, an amusing application that would help the user to better plan their social life, include more people sharing the same interests in it, and encourage the development of the “geek culture”.

THE CHALLENGE

How to design a meaningful and useful application that both predicts the future and helps the users improve their social life

BRANDING

Mellon – The Elvish word for “Friend.” Used by Gandalf to open the gates to the mines of Moria

“Mellon” is a mobile application that, in a funny way, provides suggestions for social events in your vicinity and connects you to persons sharing your interests. No more boring weekends! Take a look into your future with this free app and start making plans for the weekend, or any other day of the week for that matter 😉

The “prophesised” events you like can be saved as Favourites, saved into a Calendar, shared with Friends, and you can join groups of other people that like the same event as you

RESULT

As a result of this project, I delivered a design for a mobile application called “Mellon”. Led by a theory that users like to play games, I combined the basic function of the application (organization of free time) and quizzes. I used the characters that the users themselves mentioned as favourites. Combination of interesting characters and quizzes should make the application engaging and resulting a high usage rate, as well as inspire the users to recommend it to their friends.
